(December 2009) Chrysler's L platform was used in a family of compact automobiles produced from 1978 to 1990. It was created in response to the energy crisis of the 1970s and was a line of similar Dodge and Plymouth vehicles. The Dodge vehicles except for the Rampage are common, but the Plymouth clones, except for the Horizon didn't match half the sales numbers of the Dodge versions, and are very collectible today because only handfuls of TC3s, Scamps, and Turismos were made. Expand full review Summary: The big (4500+/-) Pacifica is a surprisingly nimble handler. I like the cabin more than a friend's Acura MDX, and I like the best-compromise seating height, the Baby Bear between the too-high MDX and too-low standard sedan.Styling is subjective, and IMO the Pac again hits Baby Bear/just right regarding height/width proportions. It looks husky and handsome from the back, rather than tall and tippy like the MDX and its SUV and minivan kin. The front is handsome, different, and sufficiently aggressive, and I like the plain look of the base model more than the blingy uplevel models. The Pac barely leans in corners, and it's tied down pretty well with good jounce and rebound control. We have deep tire-stud grooves on some interstates here, and the hunky 235x65x17s and excellent suspension setup make these become virtual only. Its city and freeway manners are impeccable; this is a Heavy Cruiser class road warrior that I think would be a pleasure to make miles in.Power is OK, I can feel little difference between the 3.8 and 3.5. These have been test drives, so I don't know if the 3.8 lives up to its 25 MPG highway rating. If so, it does considerably better than the 3.5, of which I've read numerous MPG complaints. The 3.8 also has a slightly longer final drive. With a larger than normal 23 gallon fuel capacity, this heavy cruiser should be good for well over 500 highway miles on impulse drive. That's something Katrina escapees probably would have appreciated.I like the big space in back with the 2/3 seating, which I prefer over the 2/2/2 seating which is not a useful setup for my needs. You get a flat floor and a high wagon in back. The seats are all comfortable, the view out is good with some blind spot in the back--what else is new?-- and the dash works fine. The dual zone heat/ac is a great thing to have, standard ABS is a must, the key in the dash vs. column is a much appreciated small detail. The Pac designer who thinks anyone needs a 160 MPH speedo should do some math: 160 - 40 = better readability for actual speeds actual people drive. That is the one feature I would label Just Plain Stupid. There's a good level of standard equipment for $25,000 and it looks like the 2007 will be far better, with stability control, side bags, tire pressure monitors, etc. for just under 25 grand including transportation. All I need now is one titled in my name. 3.5 stars "Road Warrior. Somewhat Technology Challenged." on May 20, 2005 by SerranoSlim Pros: Roomy, great for long trips, safety, optional nav system & Bluetooth Cons: Gas mileage, radio reception, erratic electronics, parking Summary: Half-Mercedes, half-Chrysler with excellent looks, solid footprint, massive size and airbags galore. Expand full review Summary: Half-Mercedes, half-Chrysler with excellent looks, solid footprint, massive size and airbags galore. Not surprising that it is tops in crash tests, unlike truck-based SUVs it is designed to keep the space around the driver intact. You'll drive with peace of mind in this semi-upscale road warrior.Good seats and legroom, plus A/C adjustable for left, right and rear occupants means it is perfect for long drives for up to 4 people, can seat up to 7 total. DVD system is available, includes remote. When 2nd and 3rd row seats are folded the cargo space can hold a lot, though it's not level -- it slopes towards rear door.Stereo, climate, CD, DVD controls are way too complicated, prone to glitches and occasional lockups, and FM radio reception is very poor. Sound when playing CDs is fine, however. Pre-wired for XM. Optional GPS navigation system is very conveniently displayed overlaying the speedometer, works well. Optional Bluetooth integrates well, superb sound quality for caller as well as driver, but be sure your phone properly supports handsfree profile, not just headset (Sony-Ericsson users beware).Gas mileage is SUV-like, which becomes a major expense when prices spike. You can spend $50+ on a fillup of the large gas tank. Very wide, very long so it is smooth as silk at highway speeds and uneven local streets alike. But a bear to park in tightly-spaced urban parking lots. Depreciation is precipitous, but that means a used one may be a steal. See all user reviews Thanks for your submission!
