Officially Official: 2012 Audi A6 grows up, borrows a page from A8 ←→ Chrysler debuts limited-edition Mopar '10 Challenger by Steven J. Ewing (RSS feed) on Jul 7th 2010 at 11:20AM Mopar '10 Challenger – Click above for high-res image The Mopar division of Chrysler has, in a way, been one of the automaker's silent heroes. This brand continues to build standard-spec and aftermarket parts for a range of Chrysler products, and while these optional goodies have always been offered in an a-la-carte fashion, Chrysler is now offering a true Mopar version of the 2010 Dodge Challenger. Mopar starts with a Challenger R/T, fitted with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and adds a hood-venting system, cold-air intake, front strut brace, unique engine cover and a strut-tower brace. Chrysler hasn't released official numbers, but we'd say that these modifications are good for an additional 10 or 15 horsepower – nothing crazy. Inside, there's a Katzkin leather seating package, special gear shifters for either transmission, a custom leather-wrapped steering wheel and – you guessed it – a serialized dash plaque. Only 500 of the Mopar '10 Challengers will be built, finished in a brilliant black clear coat with a choice of either red, blue or silver accents. (What, no white?) Other exterior changes include things like a black chrome grille surround, black wheels, functional hood vents and hood pins. The Mopar '10 Challenger hits dealerships next month, priced from $38,000 with the automatic transmission (including the $750 destination charge). Want a do-it-yourself shifter? Add $1,000 to that price. (Wait, what?) For the full details, hit the jump for the press release. [Source: Chrysler] Show full PR text
Chrysler Group LLC to Introduce Mopar® '10 Challenger Company Continues to Leverage, Grow Mopar Brand - Mopar '10 will be available in August
- Pricing starts at $38,000, which includes destination
- Five hundred special-edition cars to be built, customers may pre-order now For the first time in its history, Chrysler Group LLC will launch a special-edition Mopar® version of one of its vehicles. The Mopar '10, a Mopar 2010 Dodge Challenger, arrives in Dodge dealerships next month. "Our Mopar '10 Challenger is a collaboration of two iconic brands with tremendous heritage," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC. "Dodge put the heart into this Challenger and Mopar added the soul. The result is a unique, special-edition car that only we can offer." The U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for Mopar '10 is $38,000 for an automatic transmission and $39,000 for a manual transmission. Both prices include $750 for destination. Customers may pre-order now. "Mopar '10 has a wicked, sinister appearance that will turn heads." said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of Dodge, Chrysler Group LLC. "The Mopar brand resonates with hard-core enthusiasts, and this car will too." Dodge and Mopar collaborated to create Mopar '10, a "Mopar modified" 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T. Under-the-hood features include the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine, a hood-venting system, a cold-air intake, a front strut-tower brace with shock caps, and a unique engine cover. Under the decklid is a rear strut-tower brace that stiffens the chassis and improves handling characteristics of the car. Mopar '10 will be available in Brilliant Black with a choice of three accent colors: Mopar Blue, Red or Silver. Accent colors will appear on side stripes as well as in the stitching on the steering wheel and seats. Exterior features include 20-inch forged heritage gloss-black wheels, black-chromed grille surround, and a functional, vented T/A-style hood with vintage hood pins. Mopar logos and graphics are prominent on the front fascia, hood, hood-pin caps, body-side stripes, windows and on the chromed fuel door. A special Mopar '10 car cover also comes with the vehicle. Interior features include Katzkin leather seating, custom leather-wrapped steering wheel with baseball-style stitching, Mopar shift handles (T-handle for automatics, Pistol Grip for manuals), a serialized dash plaque with Mopar '10 logo and Mopar branding throughout. Every customer who purchases a Mopar '10 will receive a special owner kit that includes a certificate with the vehicle identification number (VIN), date of build completion, and build number. The kit also includes a limited-edition sketch of the vehicle signed by Chrysler Group design chief Mark Trostle, a book that highlights the special vehicle build, and Mopar '10 merchandise. Episode #207 of the Autoblog Podcast is staffed by Chris Shunk, Dan Roth, Zach Bowman and Chris Paukert. We hit the Autoblog Garage first and then salivate at the possibility of a non-hybrid Honda CR-Z. The defection of Max Wolff to Lincoln from Cadillac is next, and we ponder what that might mean before turning our attention to the return of the Dodge Viper as a 2013 model. We finish with your questions at the end for an hour and thirty-two minutes total. Thanks for listening! Freeman Thomas The Chrysler 300 is a full-size near luxury type sedan that was first shown at the 2003 New York Auto Show as a concept car. Sales in the U.S. began in the spring of 2004 as an early 2005 model year car. Designed by Ralph Gilles, the new 300 was built as a high performance, sporty sedan. The Chrysler 300 is also marketed in Australia, as the first full-size Chrysler vehicle sold there since the Valiant was discontinued in 1981.
The Chrysler 300 is based on the rear-wheel drive Chrysler LX platform which features components derived from the W210 Mercedes-Benz E-Class of 1996 to 2002. Shared components include the rear suspension design, front seat frames, wiring harnesses, steering column, the 5-speed automatic transmission's design, and a derivative of the 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The Chrysler 300 also features a double wishbone front suspension that is derived from the W220 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Contents 1 Model range 1.1 Base

[edit] Base
The basic 300 (or 300C in some countries) comes with standard 17-inch wheels, wheel covers, four-wheel disc brakes, single disc mp3 player, auxiliary input jack, power driver seat and a four-speed automatic transmission. It uses a 2,736 cc (2.736 L; 167.0 cu in) EER V6 making 190 hp (140 kW). In Canada, it comes standard with the Touring model's 3,518 cc (3.5 L; 214.7 cu in) V6 engine. The vehicle comes with standard rear wheel drive and available four wheel drive. The basic 300 model was renamed to LX for 2008.[2]
[edit] Touring
The Touring model uses a 3,518 cc (3.5 L; 214.7 cu in) V6, producing 250 hp (190 kW) and 250 ft·lb (340 N·m) of torque. It also has a 4-speed automatic transmission, and comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, AM/FM radio with CD player and auxiliary audio jack, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), remote keyless entry, leather trimmed seats, and SIRIUS satellite radio.[2]
[edit] Limited
The Limited model uses the Touring model's 3.5 L V6 engine, which generates 250 hp (190 kW) and 250 ft·lbf (340 N·m) mated to a high performance 5-speed Mercedes W5A580 automatic transmission with Autostick. Additional features include 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels and Chrysler's Dual-Zone Climate Control.
[edit] 300C Chrysler 300C The top-line 300C version uses a 5.7 L (345 cu in) Hemi V8.[2] Using the Multidisplacement System (MDS), this engine can run on four cylinders when less power is needed in order to reduce total fuel consumption. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has rated the 300C as getting 15 miles per US gallon (16 L/100 km; 18 mpg-imp) city, 23 miles per US gallon (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg-imp) highway. When all 8 cylinders are needed, the 300C can make 340 hp (250 kW) and 390 ft·lbf (530 N·m) torque. It uses a 5-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with 18 inch chrome-clad alloy wheels, Chrysler's MyGIG Infotainment System in 2008 and SIRIUS Satellite Radio and Backseat Television in 2008. The HEMI engine includes a pushrod induction tube, located on the side of the engine-block. This tube makes the 300C more fuel efficient and quicker, because of the air being "pulled and pushed" into the engine's induction area. The engine uses the HEMI, or double rocker configuration, with a cam-in-block, overhead valve (OHV) pushrod design. There are two spark plugs per cylinder to assure complete fuel/air mixture burn and decrease emissions.
[edit] Heritage Edition
The Heritage Edition of the 300C features the 5.7 L engine along with many of the SRT-8's exterior modification, added chrome accents, special badging, and special tires on 20 inch wheels. It is the first Chrysler vehicle with SmartBeam headlights. It also includes SRT front seats with the Heritage 300C symbols stitched into their headrests. The Heritage Edition debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006.
[edit] SRT Design Group
In 2007, a special options package for non-SRT 300C's became available. The SRT Design group included badging, performance suspension, SRT 20-inch forged, polished aluminium wheels, SRT front seats, SRT body modifications (minus the front lip spoiler) high speed engine controller with revised tuning for 5.7 L HEMI, raising horsepower to 350 HP, high flow air cleaner system and performance exhaust (similar to the Charger R/T's Road and Track Performance Group). Other options were included but are year dependent.
[edit] SRT-8 Chrysler 300C SRT-8 Chrysler introduced the SRT-8 version of the car at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2004. It includes a new 370-cubic-inch, 6.1 L Hemi V8 which produces 425 hp (317 kW). Preliminary performance targets for the 300C SRT8 are 0-60 mph in the low 5-second range and quarter-mile time in the high 13-second range. However, it has been proven many times by owners that stock versions of the SRT8's have performance figures that are: 0-62 mph (0–100 km/h) in well under 5 seconds and with a 1/4 mile time in the low 13 second range. It went on sale in February 2005 and has a sticker price of US$43,695 as of 2006 plus applicable taxes. Additional features include leather SRT-8 performance-embossed seats and 20-inch forged, polished aluminum wheels, Brembo brakes, and a rear lip spoiler.
[edit] Improvements
The 2007–2008 SRT-8 models have a rear spoiler moulded into the body. This is also standard throughout the entire 300 line-up. The earlier models from 2005 to 2006, did not have the lower air dam like the 2007 models. This increased cooling to the engine by as much as 30%.
[edit] Other variants
[edit] Station wagon 2008 Chrysler 300C Touring The 300C is sold in Europe and Australia as both a sedan and a station wagon. The station wagon is sold as the 300C Touring (not to be confused with the North American sedan's "Touring" trim level) which shares much of its sheet metal aft of the c-pillar with the Dodge Magnum. The 300C Touring differs from the Magnum in that it's frontal styling and interior are that of the 300C instead of the less-luxurious Magnum. The base Chrysler 300 is not sold in Europe, instead all cars come with the 300C bodystyle/interior and a choice of either V6, diesel or V8 gasoline powerplants. All 300C Touring models, along with European 300C sedans and right-hand drive models, are built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.
[edit] Diesel
In Europe and Australia, the 300C is available with a 3.0 L diesel V6 engine (internal code OM642) developed by Mercedes-Benz. It produces 218 hp (163 kW) and 376 lb-ft of torque and will soon be available with NOx BlueTec clean-diesel technology.
[edit] Executive Series 300
The idea to extend the 300 came from Bradley A. Blakeman to Chrysler executives attending JD Powers Automobile Roundtable in New Orleans, LA in 2004. The Walter P. Chrysler Executive Series 300, is an extended wheelbase version of the 300 that was shown for the first time at the 2006 New York Auto Show. It has six inches (152 mm) of extra length, which has been added to the rear passenger compartment. The extended wheelbase model will be built by Accubuilt, at an outside specialty vehicle modifier normally known for building limousines and hearses. Although built by this outside company, it is fully backed by Chrysler and sold through Chrysler dealerships.[3]
The extended wheelbase 300 competes with the Lincoln Town Car and Cadillac DTS in the American livery market.
[edit] The 3000
The Chrysler 3000тм is an aftermarket limousine variant of the 300. It is available in various lengths and internal styles.
[edit] ASC Helios 300 Chrysler 300 convertible ASC created a convertible version of the Chrysler 300C, dubbed the ASC Helios 300, and showed it at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2005. Despite rumors, Chrysler has confirmed that the vehicle will not be produced. However, a convertible version of the 300 is available from Coach Builders Limited located in High Springs, Florida.[4]
[edit] Awards
The 300C was the 2005 Motor Trend Car of the Year and was on Car and Driver's Ten Best list for 2005 and 2006. It also won the North American Car of the Year and Canadian Car of the Year Best New Luxury Car awards. During it's debut year, it was promoted as being one of the most awarded new cars ever.

38,606 [edit] Concepts In 1999, Chrysler introduced the 300 HEMI C.[8] It was a 2+2 convertible bearing the new 5.7 litre HEMI engine with 353 horsepower (263 kW) and 353 lb·ft (479 N·m) torque. It had rear wheel drive and a four speed automatic transmission. It was capable of 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds.
In 1991, Chrysler introduced a concept 300.[9] It used the engine of the Dodge Viper. It was inspired by the Monteverdi High Speed, a 1970s Swiss-built sedan powered by Chrysler. [edit] Future
Chrysler plans to launch a redesigned version of the Chrysler 300 in 2010. Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli stated, "In the pipeline for 2010: A brand new 300, a brand new Charger ... a brand new Jeep, the pipeline is full, plus we have these smaller vehicles coming through partnerships and alliances".[10]

Car Care/Ownership Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD Diesel Edition Review Jul 10, 2010 Ben Groves Crysler PT Cruiser CRD - Ben Groves A review of the Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD Diesel edition of the car. Chrysler released its controversial PT Cruiser model back on 1999 originally with a 2.4L petrol engine and available with a five speed manual or four speed automatic gear box. The Chrysler PT Cruiser quickly divided opinions amongst motorists who on the whole chose to love or hate the distinctive looks of the model.
Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD Auto Key Statistics
Chrysler released the first diesel edition of the PT Cruiser in 2004 with a 2.2L CRD engine derived from a Mercedes-Benz inspired unit generating 119BHP. The engine delivers 0-62mph in 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 114 mph. Whilst the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD is no performance car the turbo charged engine gives a pleasing whistling sound on acceleration and handles admirably for a car in the Mini-MPV category.
Fuel consumption comes in at 42.2 mpg on a combined cycle which splits down into 50.4 mpg on the highway - a figure which reduces to 32.8 mpg for urban driving. Whilst these figures are achievable, drivers will see the mpg performance of the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD drop off significantly at higher than optimum speeds. This is of course most of the time for many drivers. In the UK the Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD edition is rated in group I for the purposes of vehicle and exercise duties meaning that in 2010 the owner can expect to pay £200 for a 12 month tax disc. For insurance purposes the Crysler PT Cruiser is rated as group 13 which is relatively poor for the category considering the Vauxhall Zafira with an insurance group rating of 9 and the Ford Fusion’s rating of group 6.
Chrysler PT Cruiser CRD - A Car Were Style Meets Practicality
Few drivers buy the Chrysler PT Cruiser for either its performance or as a consideration of the cars running costs, instead most drivers are attracted to the opportunity to own a car with a unique level of styling and design. The unique shape of the vehicle will mean that few people will not have an opinion on the vehicle, the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD is a vehicle which is typically loved or hated but rarely ignored. Internally occupants are met with a novel retro styled cabin including a 1920’s style clock display and a pool ball topped gear stick.
The benefits of the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD however, may be seen as the fact that owners are able to own a car which is both uniquely styled without out having to compromise on practicality. Despite the unique looks of the model the car is spacious and can house five occupants comfortably with ample room in the boot for the luggage. Alternatively when the back seats are stowed the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD really does take on the role of Mini-MPV giving enough room to fit in everything for a camping trip and the kitchen sink. Car Review of the 2008 PT Cruiser Crysler PT Cruiser CRD - Final Verdict
Overall the Crysler PT Cruiser CRD represents the opportunity for an individual to own a vehicle which is both practical and uniquely fun to drive. In purchasing a Crysler PT Cruiser CRD the driver is making a trade off, the car is generally more expensive to run in terms of fuel, insurance and taxation in comparison to other Mini-MPV’s. However on the upside this is still a purchase which allows the average income driver to be able to afford something just that little bit different without breaking the bank or sacrificing practicality.
Overall the CRD Diesel edition may represent a better purchase than its petrol fuelled counterpart. The diesel edition has some significant benefits which are mostly related to lower running costs in the form of better mpg performance, the CRD engine as with all diesel engines will give the car a longer life. This may be a welcome relief to many owners who have had to cope with relatively high rates of depreciation across the range. Copyright Ben Groves. For someone who wants a big sedan, V8 and RWD for a reasonable price, there are few that come close. I do hope that the signature are not printed with permanent ink or paint even though it’s great to have a car with a hundred celebrity’s signature in it.
