American luxury car built for comfort, easily as reliable as our Toyotas! | This is the 3.3 LE 4 speed auto gearbox. The colour is officially red, but really it is a deep burgundy. It was SORN mid-2011 as the wife’s company car made this one surplus to requirements. The MOT ran out in June and it was kept in our garage until November when I recharged the battery and parked it in front of the house to check it over pre-MOT. It had a still legal but fairly worn rear tyre which I replaced. The night after I fitted it, a tree fell down and the upper branches dented 3 panels (roof, tailgate and passenger side rear-wing), but surprisingly the damage wasn’t that much (see photos). | The reason it is for sale now is that the insurance company initially said that we could claim for the car and that since they didn’t need to recover the vehicle we could keep it and do what we wanted with it. However, they are now saying that they want to deduct money the privilege of us keeping the car. (What can I say about Admiral?). Since the claim value is relatively low and it will be a fault claim that will affect my insurance for the next 3 years, the car is now up for sale as SPARE or REPAIR. | Good points: the 3.3L engine and 4-speed gearbox were both fine. The battery is now flat, but I did jump start it on Saturday and run it for 20 mins. It has (at least) 4 good tyres and 14 year old alloy wheels with locking wheel nuts. All doors (including tail gate) open and close as they should. Jack, locking wheel nut key, roof bars etc all present. This car went through the last recall, so the cruise control and horn both work and the injectors were “done” too (don’t know what the problem was, never affected the car). Currently has petrol in the tank. V5 present with 2 sets of keys, and prior bills etc can be provided if wanted. The car has a 2 electric socket tow bar fitted, but the swan neck didn’t come with it and we’ve never used it to tow anything. | Bad points: There are dents on the bonnet and drivers side wing and a few scratches in addition to the tree damage, but not bad bearing in mind the age of the car. The only rust I can find on the car is where the tree did the recent (fairly minor) damage above the tailgate. The car has been well used by us and the 3 kids, and I haven’t bothered cleaning it as it is technically a write off. I disabled the front driver side window as the motor or regulator was dodgy and it kept sticking open. The pins to re-install the switch are in the front of the car, replacement unit around £60 on Ebay. There is a small tear in the drivers’ seat back at the base (hard to spot). When I went to move the car on Saturday the ABS light and the battery light were on. The front driver side brake needs releasing, and the rear passenger size brake was also jammed on, but they were both fine before the tree fell in November (its been a long argument with Admiral), so probably just due to the damp and the car not being used. | THIS CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN AWAY, IT MUST BE RECOVERED. | “Buy it now” price is £500, but open to cash on collection offers as (sadly) it needs to go, alternatively for £600+ I`ll get it MOTed for you. very smooth and powerful, and achieves 40 mpg average and is a great runner. Inside the car is very comfortable, having heated leather and suede seats as well as loads of room. The rear seats fold down and even come out to make even more space for bulky items. It has very stylish KC alloys that make it stand out from other PT Cruisers that I`ve seen. It has air-conditioning, electric mirrors and seat height adjustment, as well as electric windows and central locking, as well as any other options that you would expect from a top-of-the-range model. MOT isn`t due until end of April 2012 and tax isn`t due until March 2012. Last year it has had a new radiator, along with the A/C pump and front discs and brakes. This is a great car and I`ll be sorry to see it go, but can`t afford 2 cars at the moment. 2 months tax and 3 months MOT left, hence the price.
